BioDavid Mathews earned his MA in Writing and Publishing at DePaul University. Recent publications include After Hours, CHEAP POP, Eclectica Magazine, Midwestern Gothic, Word Riot, Silver Birch Press, Freeze Ray Poetry, and One Sentence Poems.
His work has been anthologized in Belt Magazine’s Rust Belt Chicago: An Anthology, in Endlessly Rocking, nominated for The Best of The Net, and a Pushcart Prize. Recently, his golden shovel "The Naming of Monsters" was chosen as the winner of the 2020 Mary Blinn Poetry Prize and he was a finalist in the 2019 and 2023 Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Awards. David lives in his hometown of Chicago, where he recently worked as a Creative Writing Instructor at the Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts). Currently, he is focussed on his work at Heartland Human Care Services, an organization that can trace its roots back to Jane Adams Hull House. |
